About Silver Meadows Cooperative
Silver Meadows Cooperative is a planned senior living community in the Goderich region, created to offer dignity, independence, and a strong sense of belonging for adults 55+.
The project is currently in its foundational planning stage, with work underway to form a Founding Board of Directors who will help guide development, governance, and long‑term sustainability.
Who I Am
My name is Wayne Wiebe, and I am the Founder of Silver Meadows Cooperative.
I’m a Canadian Veteran and now a senior myself, which gives me a personal understanding of the challenges older adults face when it comes to finding stable, affordable, community‑driven housing.
While I haven’t spent years working in senior‑care projects, I have been actively involved in community and local history initiatives across the Goderich, Point Clark, and Huron‑Kinloss area. Through these experiences — and through my own lived reality as a senior — I’ve seen a clear and growing need for a place where older adults can live independently, affordably, and with genuine community connection.
Silver Meadows was born from that need:
a cooperative community built by seniors, for seniors.
The Proposal
Silver Meadows Cooperative is being designed as a member‑owned, not‑for‑profit senior community with a focus on:
1. Affordable, Accessible Housing
Thoughtfully planned modular homes and community spaces designed for comfort, safety, and long‑term sustainability.
2. A Supportive, Connected Environment
A place where neighbours know each other, support each other, and enjoy a safe, welcoming atmosphere.
3. Senior‑Focused Services
As the community grows, the cooperative aims to integrate:
- Partnerships for senior support services
- Wellness and community programs
- Long‑term planning for hospice or end‑of‑life care options
4. Cooperative Governance
Residents will have a voice.
Silver Meadows will be governed by its members through a Board of Directors, ensuring transparency, accountability, and community‑driven decision‑making.
5. Long‑Term Stability
The cooperative model ensures the community is built for people, not profit, with decisions made in the best interest of its members.
Where We Are Now
Silver Meadows is currently in the early planning phase, which includes:
- Forming a Founding Board of Directors
- Establishing bylaws and governance structure
- Exploring land options in the Goderich area
- Outlining funding pathways and partnerships
- Engaging the community for input and support
This stage is about building the right foundation before moving into land acquisition and construction planning.
